Frequently asked questions

When should I see a doctor?

You should consider discussing your symptoms with a doctor if:

  • they are impacting on your enjoyment and quality of life or your ability to do all the things that your life demands or that you desire – such as juggling family, work and play;
  • you are already taking menopause treatments and they aren’t working for you or you are having side effects; or
  • you would like more information about the perimenopause or menopause and the health risks associated with this phase of life, and how to prevent these.

Dr Michelle Cliffe is a qualified and practising medical doctor. She is a Fellow of the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners (FRNZCGP).

Can I register Bloom as my general practitioner?

No, Bloom Menopause Care is a clinic just for menopause care. We’re not here to replace your GP or family doctor – we work with them.

How long are your appointments and what is the cost?

Initial appointments are 45 minutes and cost $260. Follow-up appointments are 20 minutes and the cost is $130.

Do you prescribe hormone therapy?

Yes. We can prescribe menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) – sometimes known as hormone replacement therapy (HRT).

There are also other treatment options for those who choose not to take hormones or who cannot be prescribed hormones (because of their medical history).

Will you talk to my regular doctor?

Yes. We want to keep your family doctor (GP) informed of any treatments we start with you. They manage your general health, and may manage your ongoing prescribing once your treatment regime is established with us.
